About the event
Anna Loebe, Ed. D. is currently a family support specialist at Children’s Advocacy Center of Southern Arizona. Her presentation subtitled "Impact on Children Separated from Mothers" addresses the effect of trauma on the affect and behavior of children during Mother’s and Father’s Day, birthdays, and holidays – all reminders of the missing people, traditions, and rituals in their lives, and is supported by trauma-informed child and parenting research.
Remember the movie “The Wizard of Oz”? Like Dorothy, who was abruptly transported from her home by a tornado, children separated from mothers and birth family will experience disorientation, fear, and trepidation as they find their footing in a new environment. Beyond losing birth parents and familiar surroundings, they have left behind family celebrations, as well.
